‘The Elixr’ is a poetry chapbook. The title is in reference to the stages of the hero’s journey, a model of common structural elements in storytelling. It is found universally in myths, fairy tales, dreams, and movies. The current model is widely attributed to Joseph Campbell and his book “The Hero with a Thousand faces.” In the book he describes the narrative pattern as follows:
“A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural
wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero
comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.”
